4.2.11

This past Saturday I spent the day shadowing the mayor and his wife as they visited various sites around the city for Philly Cleanup. At one point we were traveling with Miss America, who was making appearances as a part of the “Keep America Beautiful” campaign. The day was meant to be a communal effort to help try to make Philadelphia a more beautiful place. I’d say it was an overall success even just for the fact that it got neighbors out together doing something productive.

Here are a few of my favorite images from the day:

Miss America speaks to a little girl at a West Philly cleanup site. (I am pretty sure the girl thought she was a princess)

A man helps remove trash in a vacant lot at 17th & Huntingdon.

Miss America and first lady of Philadelphia Lisa Nutter talk about different issues the city of Philadelphia is attempting to overcome.
